Nokia X5-01 announced at Nokia Connection

Maybe this is a start of a new trend. Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini appeared recently with a tiny squre-shaped footprint. Now, Nokia has announced their own mini version called the X5-01. With only a 2.36″ QVGA (320×240) non-touschscreen LCD and  using the tried and proven Symbian S60 3rd edition OS, this doesn’t sound so exciting.

But this is not just a smaller mobile phone with a smaller LCD like the XPERIA X10. Nokia X5-01 actually comes fully equiped with a slide-out 4-row qwerty keyboard which really differentiates itself from the upcoming crowd. (pictured below)

Some of its other highlights are the impressive battery life of up to 16 days standby or 24 hours of music playback on a single charge. It also has some interesting accelerometer-based gesture support where you can spin the X5 around to go to the next song track or shake the phone to display any unread messages.

Nokia X5-01 will be available in variety of colors and it will launch in Indonesia around Q3 this year for around 165 euros before taxes and subsidies.

Nokia N900 to get full navigation version of Ovi Maps?

Now here’s something interesting. A recent interview with Pino Bonetti from the Ovi Maps team by Ovi Blog has sprung up a very interesting blurb about the possibility that the full “free” voice guided navigation version of Ovi Maps is indeed coming to the N900’s Maemo OS.

Here’s the culprit snippet from the long interview:

I don’t know about you but to me, that’s quite a decent indication that proper Ovi Maps is in the works for the N900. Unfortunately he didn’t elaborate any more and all I can say to the N900 users worldwide is that it may be coming. When, I don’t know. But I don’t think it’s gooing to be any time soon….

Nokia showcases the creative power of Nokia N8

Following the Part 1 video showing us the overview of the Nokia N8, Nokia has put out a Part 2 video this time showcasing its creative side. The video goes through the super speedy photo browser, editing the photos in-phone and also the very user friendly Video Editor. Seeing as though Apple iPhone with iOS4 will also have this feature included, it will be interesting to see how this will compare. Nokia N8 is scheduled to be released at Q3 this year.
