Quick Take: Bose QC15 vs Sony MDR-ZX750BN Noise Cancelling Headphones

This is a super duper quick, non-technical comparison based on my personal experience of both headphones.

Bose is more comfortable, lighter & has better noise cancellation. (both passive & active due to its around the ear design) But it does not work if you run out of batteries(AAA), uses a proprietary cable, isn’t wireless and feels more flimsy.

Sony is better in everything else. Better loudness, more louder / punchier bass if needed, better overall sound quality (better mids/highs), Bluetooth wireless (BIG difference), music/call controls, works without batteries (BIG diff), rechargeable via Micro USB cable, works without noise cancellation active, NFC pairing, works with standard 3.5mm audio cable and feels better made (more solid). It’s just not as comfortable (Bose foam is softer & is around the ear) and by design, it isn’t as good in noise cancellation. (it’s quite noticeable)s

Considering comfort is very much subjective, it’s hard to compare. Regardless, Bose is definitely more comfortable still. But due to its lower price, better sound quality, performance and features, Sony MDR-ZX750BN is a clear winner of the two.

1take – Apple announces iPhone 5s and 5c

The latest iPhone lineup.
The latest iPhone lineup.

Quick first take as usual. Apple iPhone 5s was as expected going by all the  rumors before the announcement. Looks near identical with better internals, same display and finger print reading home button. Although it is technically a significant hardware upgrade, general consumers won’t be able to tell the difference between 5 and 5s except for higher price (at least in Australia) and the different looking home button. Being the arrogant(=stubborn) Apple that they are, I guess they probably think that is still more than enough to rake in the money. Maybe they are right. But I’m definitely not a fan.

Now for the iPhone 5c which most used to call the iPhone 5 “cheap”, we now know that it’s just a iPhone 5 “color” which is not so cheap. I can only recommend everyone to just save up a little more and get the 5s instead with a nice colorful case. Well, I personally do not recommend anyone to get the “iPhone” unless they know exactly why they are getting it. But if you still want one without knowing why, do go for the 5s so you can really enjoy the feeling of getting something the best that Apple has to offer right now and not the 5c which is so-2012.

1take – Microsoft buys Nokia for US$7.2 billion

Nokia is now Microsoft
Microsoft aquires Nokia

Just my first quick take on this news. It was bound to happen. I always expected it as Microsoft couldn’t pull it off on their own I thought. I’ll keep a close eye as always on what Microsoft does with Nokia technology. I hope they become more bold and daring and release a phone that shows them what they are capable of. PureView cameras are good but it’s not good enough to win the market. They need to make at least one flagship product that has every technology that they can jam into with no cut corners. To make it look better than the best of Samsung/LG/HTC even on paper (spec wise) is VERY important IMO. Just having a phone with an amazing camera but nothing much else special isn’t going to cut it really. Be bold Microsoft(Nokia). You need to make something that makes even the owners of the S4/5s want to switch!! Well, it might be a bit too late now so I hope they have something that will really entice the S5/iPhone6 buyers come mid-2014.
